Things to do and see in Stamford.
It’s not only serene, but it’s exciting in Stamford too! In case you wondering what the non-OA things there are to do in Stamford, here’s but a few highlights.
For the architectural enthusiasts:
The Stamford Cone (Tresser Blvd) – Not an ice cream place my OA fellow members. With more than 200 stained glass panels, the Cone resembles a kaleidoscope and stands over 45-feet tall.
The First Presbyterian Church (Bedford St.) – This local church’s architectural layout resembles a fish. The church also houses the largest mechanical pipe organ in the state.
For the historical buffs and nature enthusiasts:
The Stamford Historical Society Museum (High Ridge Road) – This is for you local history enthusiasts. This local history museum showcases some of the area’s most significant artifacts and is a research library as well.
The Museum and Nature Center (Scofieldtown Road) – Has over 115 acres of stunning woodlands in this natural complex including: trails, picnic areas, and a working farm. The center also features a Tudor revival stone chateau, as well as an observatory and a planetarium.
The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens (Brookdale Rd) A 91 acre property is a living museum of majestic trees, rare plant collections, charming gardens, and varied natural habitats and landscapes traversed by hiking and walking trails.
For the shopping fans:
Well, there is the really large mall just across the street, as well as some lovely area boutiques, but what Stamford is really known for is antiques. If you’re up for some treasure hunting then there are not one, but three great places to explore:
United House Wrecking (Hope Street) is well known for the treasures it salvages from estates sales and historic homes. Antique items range from classics to reproductions.
The Antique and Artisan Center (Jefferson St) features beautiful paintings and drawings as well as 19th and 20th century furniture, garden pieces, books and other decorative objects.
Harbor View Center for Antiques (Jefferson St) houses more than 75 dealers displaying
their acquisitions. This local antiques shop offers some exquisite and unusual finds.
